Pehembiya is a semi decent wave on a horse shore prestine beach, south of Matara, located in Hiriketiya Bay. Pehembiya surf Location takes at least 5 – 6 ft waves in other breaks such as Mirissa for this to really start working out the back. Therefore this is a good option for intermediate surfers when other breaks in the south are out of the comfort zone. This is ideal for intermediate surfers in general and can give rides up to 200m in length on a good day.Pehembiya is also known as Horseshoe Bay. The beach curves 450 metres from end to end, although the neck of the bay is only 180 metres wide; a near perfect horseshoe. If you’re making a day trip to surf Pehembiya, make sure that you include a visit to the largest seated Buddha statue in sri Lanka, and the blow hole.
